ANTIQUE SATIN: a drapery fabric with horizontal slubs which imitate spun
BATIK: cloth opaqued with wax before the fabric is dyed.
BROCADE: jacquared weave with weft woven into the fabric to give embroidered effect.
CALICO: cotton similar to broadcloth and usually printed in small multi-colored floral prints
CANVAS: medium to heavy weight cottton in plain or twill weave
CASHMERE: from Tibet and India, it's soft, long-wearing, and often used with wool.
CHAMBRAY: lightweight cotton blend in balanced weave, often slightly slubbed
CHEVRON: a pattern formed by regular and repeated zigzap weave
CREWEL: basket weave base of cotton, linen, or wool, with hand machine embroidery of worsted wool
DAMASK: formal satin based jacquard pattern typically a large floral or Renaissance pattern
DENIM: cotton or polyester twill that is practical and sturdy
FLANNEL: any fabric that is woven then brushed to achieve a soft nap
FLOCK: reducing textile fibers to fragments by cutting or grinding
FRIEZE: upholstery weight looped pile fabric of nylon
HERRINGBONE: a complex twill with regular zigzag patterns
HOUNDSTOOTH: medium to heavy-weight fabric with woven twill pattern that resembles squares with projecting "tooth-like" corners
LISSERIE: a fine jacquard woven stripe imitating silk and embroidery
MATELESSE: heavy upholstery-weight textile made up of two sets of warps and wefts to create a cushion
MOHAIR: from the Angora goat, the variations combine wools, cotton, and various other fibers
MOIRE: formal ribbed fabric embossed with a waterpark pattern
PLAID: printed design consisting of stripes in several directions or intervals
SATIN: a basic weave which threads float over up to eight weft threads
SCRIM: sheer open weave cotton fabric
SHANTUGN DUPIONI: a spun silk that may be of natural or synthetic fibers
SUEDECLOTH: a light to medium weight artificial knit or woven textile
TAPESTRY: weave technique used to produce complex pictorial designs
TICKING: woven striped fabric used to make "ticks"
TOILE: cotton or linen similar to muslin used to imitate scenes, buildings, animals, and florals
TOILE DE JOUY: toile fabrics printed in one color; usually black, navy, and burgundy
TWEED: upholstery weight textile in plain balanced or variation weave
VELOUR: a pile fabric with soft, velvet-like texture
VELVET: woven pile fabric with soft, sturdy face; may consist of one or more fibers and types include antique, brocade, crushed, and embossed
VOILE: sheer transparent fabric in plain weave or tightly twisted yarns
