As for the notion that white is bland, soulless, and clinical, think again. White bestows an unmatched crisp, clean, and airy feel to any interior. It is timeless and will never date like other colors. White offers limitless possibilities for collectors, is indiscriminate whether you live in an uptown apartment, city townhouse, beach bungalow, or country cottage.
Having a white interior does not mean that one needs to banish color altogether. You can introduce vibrancy into a predominately white room with small explosions of color or one big bang. Whether you opt for the subtle or the daring, the trick is to stick with one or two color accents that complement one another and make the room feel less monochromatic. Color also provides a focal point. You might consider highlighting a wall, a ceiling, a chandelier, a floor, or fabrics.
Using white successfully in an interior relies on the subtle mixing and matching of different shades. White can be divided into six main color families: chalky, muted, neutrals, creamy, cool, and gray. The first step in choosing the right color hue for you is to decide upon the effect or mood that you wish to create and your room and that best compliments your furnishings and accessories. White shades are also influence by lighting so never hesitate to try different colors before deciding on the right shade for your home.
