Lodge decor draws its inspiration from nature as well as the hunting homes throughout the Midwest and Western United States. These getaways were often large, open, and rustic houses with areas defined by comfortable living. Construction and furnishings reflected their natural settings. Fireplaces often anchored the rooms and exposed beams highlighted the ceilings.
Lodge furniture reflects the great outdoors. Generally sturdy, rustic, and made from pine, walnut, or birch, the design is more rough cut than stylized. Often handcrafted elements are added as adornment. Sofas and loveseats tend to be oversized and comfortable. Dining room tables are oversized in scale. Fabrics tend towards the rough and include leather, tweed, or prints with wildlife motifs.
Folk art and Americana provide ideal accessories for a lodge style home. Cast iron stars, flag inspired wall hangings, woven baskets, duck decoys, pinecones, and antlers are often displayed on the walls of this style of house. Furnishings lean to leather with the colors of nature represented through the use of browns, greens, blacks, reds, and burnt orange. Area rugs tend to be rag or braided, often place on distressed, wide planked hardwood floors. Art further emphasizes nature with collections ranging from moose, geese, to botanicals. Friendly and accessible, Lodge style is perfect for a casual, warm, and inviting home. It allows residents to bring the beauty of the outdoors into their lving quarters. These houses are uniquely American.
